Cheap-O Groceries

There is a chain grocery store here, and they have the cheapest processed food you can find. Many of my friends and neighbors were really excited when they opened up locally. I went to check it out. I have to say the smell of the bad meat, was enough to make me never want to go back. So you have to stop and feel bad for those that are buying their groceries there, and feeling good about all of the food they are getting for their families for such a small price. And yet they are feeding their families garbage. When you feed your children toxic products, you are changing your family tree in a bad way.

You don’t have to go broke to eat healthy. If you have a Whole Foods nearby, you can go to their website and check what’s on sale before you make your weekly meal plan. Organics go on sale just like regular foods do. And when you are buying non-organic, just watch the ingredients. No HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) or corn sugars, no nitrites and just try to stay away from as much of the processed foods as possible. Get your family on a healthy meal of oatmeal in the morning with berries or a little pure maple syrup on top. You can buy oatmeal for very little money. Spaghetti isn’t much more expensive if you use organics than if you use non-organics. And I would recommend you splurge and buy either the grass-fed beef or bison. Instead of using the full pound in your spaghetti use half in the spaghetti, and then use the other half with beans to make a nice crockpot chili.

Think and give it a try this week. I think you may be surprised meal planning and health go hand in hand, and processed foods are on the way out.

Get it together

The new year is just around the corner and now is the time to get yourself ready for the new year. A great idea for anyone (especially the moms) is to create an organization binder. My current binder has a main calendar, weekly overview, daily task list, monthly dinner menu, daily meal plans, grocery lists, daily chores, weekly chores, monthly chores and a nutritional manager to make sure I’m getting all of the required items into my day. I even have a WW Points tracker but since I’m not doing WW right now I’m not quite sure why I placed it in the binder.

I also have my financial section. I have done my budget for January – September of next year. These are then placed into my Dave Ramsey financial software to make sure I’m really getting every penny out of my earnings to get the debt paid off. This is maybe the most important area of my binder because the number one reason that couples argue is over the finances. So this is great to be able to sit down with your spouse, budget and then you can both be accountable for sticking to it.

So now is the time to get it together. Google “printable organization tools” and see what you come up with or contact your coach to get your own binder started as you start the coaching journey.
