New year… what does it mean?

Every day is a new day, but tomorrow is even more… it’s a new year. And tomorrow will be the official start of the “new year, new you” season, in which grandiose resolutions abound. I will start a new career, I will live my best life, I will get out of debt, I will, I will, I will. And of course the biggest one of the I will’s… lose weight, the faster the better. With the recession raging and food prices soaring, you might think dieting would be easier these days. But in a recent survey of nearly 500 registered dietitians and nutritionists, 56% of respondents said they were concerned that the economic downturn would have a negative impact on their patients’ ability to maintain or achieve a healthy weight. The reason? Junk food is cheaper than healthy fare. Plus, financial woes can be so distracting, people don’t pursue nutritional goals. Some diet programs–like Weight Watchers, which costs about $12 a week–have already seen enrollments decline in recent months. The problem with most resolutions is that we don’t have a plan, we don’t think about the steps required to get there. You have no clarity on what you really want. I must also say that 2011 you were an awesome year and I will miss you. You had me up and down, from putting the house on the market, to packing it all up and moving to Issaquah… oh wait… that ended up being Kirkland. Just another surprise. I am so grateful for friends that stuck by my side, and all of the new friends that I’ve made.

I’ve had happy moments as well to check off my annual list … I got rid of the double digit women’s pants, I watched my baby grow into a Kindergartener, I’ve seen my husband become a yellow belt, became a Certified TurboKick instructor and a Certified Personal Trainer. 2011 you continued to bring me better health and countless hours of fun, laughter and tears with friends who mean so much to me. Thank you for keeping the sun shining on my face and the wind blowing through my hair.

2011 Favorites: Attended a class with Robyn the Green Smoothie girl; Cardiff By The Sea in the early early spring. Walking Long Beach with my family, including the funny little dog that has truly become one of us. Best of all though learning more about myself, being happy and knowing that life is still just beginning.

Purple Smoothie Delight for happiness

You want to know what my favorite smoothie is right now? It’s a version of Robyn Green Smoothie Girl’s Hot Pink Breakfast Smoothie. Why am I all about the healthy stuff??? I believe. Like I said in my last blog post. I believe. I think that if you follow the stuff below, you will be healthier, you will be in a place of opportunities and that you won’t spend your days thinking about all that you don’t have, but rather all that you do have… at least most of the time.


My happy right now is beets. One cup of raw beets is high in carbohydrates and low in fat. It contains phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and potassium, as well as fiber, vitamins A and C, niacin, and biotin. Beets contain folic acid, which is recommended for pregnant women because it may lower the risk of spina bifida and other neural tube defects in newborn infants. And long-term deficiencies have been linked to heart disease and cervical cancer, too.

Beets contain a wealth of fiber — half soluble and half insoluble. Both types play roles in fighting fat. These colorful root vegetables contain powerful nutrient compounds that help protect against heart disease, birth defects and certain cancers, especially colon cancer. Dr Ferenczi in Csoma hospital in Hungary has been using raw beets to cure cancer, and nothing else since the late 1950s.

So I share with you my delight… my happiness in a cup. It’s an amazingly creamy rich smoothie, and just what I need to pick up my spirits at any time of the day.

Purple Smoothie Delight – makes about 1 quart
1 c coconut water
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 large apple cut into pieces
1/4 of a medium beet, raw and peeled (you can freeze these for later use in smoothies)
1/4 c sacha inchi seeds (optional)
1/4 c chopped dates
1 tsp Ormus Greens
3/4 cup frozen blueberries
optional: 1-2 Tbsp flax seed or flax oil, protein powder, quinoa rejuvelac, kefir or yogurt

Place the ingredients, in order listed, into your Vitamix or other high power blender leaving out the blueberries and optional ingredients. Blend for 90 seconds. Add the blueberries and optional ingredients and blend on high until smooth.

Centering on my priorities.

Even as a life coach, I find it hard some days to really center on my priorities. And when I look at the choices I have made that day, it all comes back to one item… what have I done today for my health?

Health is the core, or center, of all of the other choices I make in my life during the day. If I don’t eat healthy, if I don’t follow my meal plan, if I don’t get in my fitness – my attitude, focus and clarity start to slip. I find myself spending too much time in front of social media. I find myself saying one too many times to my family, “Just a minute.” I let my schedule fall to the side and I let me house slowly fall into chaos. That can lead to sleeping in and not getting my exercise in. It leads to not eating well and then craving more bad foods. It leads to feeling emotionally battered by the day and closing off to the world around me. It leads to not having the belief in myself to go after my dreams. I refuse to let that happen. THAT is why I live the life that I’m leading right now.

Recently I was asked to write up my “Top Priority Clarity Statement”. I wanted to share it with you to help guide you in figuring out how to define your own.

My number-one priority is to live an elevated priority aligned lifestyle by choosing the healthy choices that will allow me to actively engage my parenting with a loving, supportive attitude , and to engage my husband in an intimate, connected and supportive role without feeling tired and rundown by my choices. This means that I will provide myself with the tools to have the energy, wellness and continued passion to pursue all of the other areas of my life. Any choice that I make that would endanger my attitude, health or emotions in such a way as to take me away from that pursuit will be going against all that I stand for.

I am thankful this November for having an amazing person, Chalene Johnson, around to Push my goals to an entirely new place and help me refocus when I need to. And when you need it, I’m here for you. My programs will be opening for a new group next month – both for the Living with E.P.A. – Elevated Purpose Alignment and the ELEV8 – 90 Days to Healthy Priority Alignment. The two programs are very different. The Living with E.P.A. is a 12 week program that is meant to define yourself as well as creating a real life that is aligned to your soul’s drive. ELEV8 is a health driven program to get your to that place of being where you can live that life without the regrets of unhealthy foods, temptations or decisions. Unavailable

I often find that my clients believe that things they are dreaming of attaining are “unavailable”. So what exactly does that mean? The dictionary gives the definition as:

Not available, accessible, or at hand.

So this is how I look at it. Just because something is not right here, in your hand, right now. That doesn’t mean that it’s not waiting around the corner for you to pick up on. Sometimes it is just opening the right door, or eliminating a fear to showcase the thing that you thought was never going to be available. So what is the definition of available:

Capable of being gotten, Present and ready for use

Who knew? When you are present – you’ll open doors to these things that I promise are “capable of being gotten”. You just have to be prepared because if you are present, you had better be ready. Don’t ask for that which you are not ready to accept. But accept that you have greater abilities than you believe. And when you are truly ready, ask for the door to open. The life you change, will begin with your own.

New day ahead

We’ve all heard it so many times – it’s a new year, a new day… and yet does anything ever change? In order for that clean slate to really make a difference you have to have changes to the way you have been doing things. This is the foundation of all changes – relationships, career, parenting, dieting, exercise. Nothing will change if you don’t first make the change. If you continue to have relationships with the same sort of man or woman, you’ll end up right back where you are today. The same goes for if you continue to allow yourself to eat a carton of ice cream since you “ate so well” all day. If you cannot commit to real work and real change you will never see a difference in your life, your day or your new year.

Abundance is out there, but it’s not going to jump through hoops to get to you. Make a path already. Do it today. Don’t wait until January 1st for the changes. Start it all today. I want you to commit to one change in your life for the better today. Just one. When it sticks, make another. And as you build a strong foundation you’ll clear out the obstacles in your path and be able to invite abundance in.

Are you living abundantly?

I hear people talking about abundance an awful lot these days. And if you have watched or read “The Secret”, or even heard of it you have probably taken it all to be about money. But abundance actually have very little to do with earning money. Fiscally speaking it’s more about respecting your money, and therefore attracting more because you are not abusing the fiscal power. But to be truly living an abundant life you have to understand what attracts life forces, and how much your health plays into that.

So – how do you tap into your life force of abundance? If there in one thing I can suggest it’s to respect all things in your life, and have a gratitude for it. You may be out of shape, but you are still able to walk. Be grateful that you can walk and then get out there and respect your body by using it to walk down to the mailbox. If you are feeding your body, be grateful that you are healthy and respect that by giving your body healthy foods that it craves. Have you ever noticed that you make greatly better life decisions when you aren’t feeling starved, or bloated, or just plain yucky? How can you attract abundance when you are only aware of the girth of your stride or the feeling of your stomach rolling from what you’ve just eaten… or just being focused for hours on the bag of cookies you just finished. You attract what you are focused on and grateful for. When you are focused on ill health, you are going to attract it.

Food and activity is a key to the truth of living in abundance. Think about this information from my upcoming 8 week life changing course. Your food matters … so what are you eating? And why do you need it? Let’s just take a little of my information on proteins:

These are general signs of protein deficiency.
* Edema
* General weakness and lethargy
* Muscle soreness and weakness, cramps
* Slowness in healing wounds, cuts, scrapes, and bruises
* Difficulty sleeping
* Headache
* Nausea and stomach pain
* Fainting

When you eat protein it repairs the body and creates new cells to replace ones that naturally (or unnaturally) die off. As such, it is absolutely critical for life. Does any of these items seem to resonate with you?

When you don’t have a holistic healthy approach to your life, you aren’t going to feel your best. If you don’t feel your best then you aren’t going to show up as fully present in any area of your life. Abundance is inter-connected with your mind, body, spirit and community. Start today by telling yourself the truth. A can of ravioli’s isn’t going to help your health. Sitting on the couch all day isn’t going to help you accomplish your daily goals. That can of of Diet Coke isn’t going to give you the energy you need, nor is it going to help you cope with your children.

There is a reason – as I’ve said before – that they say the truth will set you free. Free yourself to live abundantly and respect yourself and live your truth. Start today.
